So, game keeps saying it was not designed to run on windows or there was an error, preventing me from playing in full screen which offsets the buttons to the point that I cannot play one of the later shark hunt levels. Not sure why this is happening but thought it was important to let you know.
In attempting to troubleshoot it via windows compatibility I believe I bricked the game as all my gold fish are gone, there's only 1 mermaid I can chose from and all game modes other than cruise are gone... Redownloading it doesn't fix this either...
Hi, I had the same issue with the file error, and was able to solve it by just deleting the README.txt file entirely (remaking it didn't do anything); I've been playing for a bit and nothing seems to be broken.
I didn't try compatibility mode or have your issues there, but if you right click on the .exe you should be able to select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode for... (whatever windows)".
If your progress is still gone after that, I think from trying to troubleshoot the file myself earlier that save data might be stored in hungrymermaidcruise.ini, so if you have a copy of that file from an older version of the game you can try renaming or deleting the .ini with the same name that comes with the new version and pasting the old .ini file into the new game folder. I can't guarantee that'll work either, but I think it would be worth a try if disabling compatibility mode doesn't fix everything already (also, just in case: if after everything you're still missing the other modes, I would make sure you didn't redownload the demo version by accident).
Running the game in compatibility mode and trying to troubleshoot it was what got the game to screw up. Removing the readme file fixed the file error, but even after deleting the ini file and redownloading the game, it still only gives me the cruise option and none of the other game modes and shows only the one mermaid, not even the other's silhouette.
Hi, just as a heads up, I'm able to reset my save by switching out the .ini file right in the normal game folder (the downloaded folder with the .exe) and it generates new .inis there too, so I think it might be reading from that folder right now, at least for me. Not a problem or anything at all, just thought I should let you know!
There is an options.ini in the game folder, and a hungrymermaidcruise.ini in appdata/local for me. Are you saying the hungrymermaidcruise.ini generates in the game folder for you? :o
Do you still have your downloaded folder for the last version of the game? It sounds like it somehow overwrote your save file with a fresh one before when you were in compatibility mode (though I'm not sure why it would do that), so just deleting the new .ini will only make the game create a new fresh one. If you can, you want to take the old .ini from the version of the game you played before and copy/paste it into the new folder to replace or overwrite the new .ini.
Unfortunately, if you don't have an old .ini, you might have to start over, but if the game is working properly you should at least be able to unlock the other modes again through playing.
I just want the game to work. The save file doesn't matter any more. Unless the game is meant to be like how it was half a year ago when it was first released when you first start without even the passive mode it isn't working, which is what I was trying to say when I stated it only gives me cruise, no other game modes, and there's not even silhouette's of the other mermaids.

If I did a commission updates, can you do a gulper, medusa, and a deep black dragon fish with the lights, and a flying type like a cormorant Or gannet or pelican girl as a flappy bird cameo or maybe the pelican is a power up and a sea eagle. And a secret goddesszilla that can cook the screen with a breath ray. And maybe gets all sharks to appear when she gets big?
I just finished mermaid 3 and level 2, making the other mermaid, levels, and powers should be quick when I have the time. I'm not going to add anything else as I want to finish development but these are all cool ideas :)
Curious how will levels work, will it be after a certain size reached, certain amount of time, or will they be unlockable/selectable similar to the skins?
First level will be unlocked by eating your first shark (after getting the update) then each level you will complete by eating the shark chasing you :) which unlocks the next level
Reduce size, move/remove quit, restart buttons and score to the corners of the screen as they cover best stuff!😣 A big bellied shark and her face, hard to see/capture some good VORE!😔

Hey I just had two ideas; one small and one large.
The small idea is an option to disable the music so I can just hear the gulps and gurgles.
The large idea is an internal belly view that shows which fish are currently in the mermaid’s tummy, swimming around in there and then disappearing. I guess the best place for it would be the top left since the pause button is on the top right.
The past couple of comments seem worried. Just wanna point out that only a few comments down HungryBelly mentioned a break from coding, and that it would be a bit until next update. Every hardworking engine needs cooling!
On an unrelated note, I also want to say that I’ve gone from hating the shark to loving her more than I love the mermaid. It is an inescapable arc. All Hungry Mermaid Cruise players are fated to fulfill it. >:)
Can the shark have to be bigger to eat you? O feel like something should have to be bigger than you to eat it. Also more smaller shark spawns please! It is incredibly satisfying to eat the thing trying to eat me!
Loving the updates ~ if anything the only annoying this that I need to get use to is that a smaller shark can eat the mermaid from behind and that get quite fast too. Maybe ton the speed down a bit, but also a cosmetic idea could be that Shark girl belly sags more since the mermaid is quite larger :3
I got it and I really like it! My only gripe is that it gets really hard to dodge at the larger sizes. Also the hitbox for the mermaid and the sharks don't match. And though the music is good, I could use a mute switch.

Seem to have discovered a couple bugs in this latest version, they may be related:
- Sharks significantly smaller than the mermaid can eat her.
- The mermaid now grows EXTREMELY quickly. Since installing the update, I can get the mermaid to fill a good sixth of the screen without score going much higher than 1000.
in cruise mode it should be fairly slow.. but buffet mode should be fast. Balances will be fluctuating a bit through the updates, thanks for the feedback :)
Awesome, I read through some of the comments, I really liked the idea of the game over screen being inside the shark's belly, dunno how much work that would be tho.

About how long do you have to wait until the new Mermaid is selectable? And also, after feeding them and they go into the middle, are they permanently selectable, or do they need to be fed again each time you want to play as them? Or is it that you play as that Mermaid until you swap to the other one by feeding it and then selecting it once it's in the middle?
ever thought of giving her a special move if she eats a shark with a fire tail, like a flamethrower screen wipe then an inhale so she sucks them all in, or like a sea mine explosion
then the electric eel tail with a shark should give her a mega mouth like a gulper eel where she devours the screen. So I'm glad you are doing a sequel. Hopefully you manage to put some deep sea moments in with a black screen and much more glowing fish and glowing sharks maybe an angler fish mode or a black dragon fish mode or a comb jelly... Actually a comb jelly may be hard to animate... Im not sure how difficult it would be for you to make a boss shark for her to eat as well? That maybe calls smaller sharks she eats to get bigger until she can eat the boss shark.
I also think she should be able to sing a song to hypnotize the sharks as a standard mermaid and even in the sequel if it goes that for she could grow legs and feed on beach Gowers turtles coconut crabs snakes etc then she could find a surf board and she could surf and eat anything in her way. While she is on land she would use the song to hypnotize people, perhaps she could go to Komodo island and feed on the dragons If she gets knocked off she swims for a while still able to eat prey before her tail grows back.
This is how I think of it in terms of old sega m drive games I used to play.
If I was going to go further I would unlock a prehistoric mode with mosasaur lioplurodons etc she could eat and power up into. By the end there should be selectable versions like you have

Maybe a jelly mode
You could have secret chars like a medusa that freezes anything looking at her a Cerberus with three upper bodies one tail. A hydra with multiple tails that grow mouths on so she can't be eaten from behind, a kraken with tentacles and a jet also cannot be bum rushed. A harpy that dives like a pelican but can glide also. And an orca that grows super fast when she eats sharks. These are my ideas for now. I hope you keep working on this game thanks for making it
Does it show up in the shop? If so you need to click on her to feed her first. She is selectable when In the center of the screen, but it takes a long idle time for her to digest and move. You can feed her then she will move even while not in that screen or not even in the game at all. Hope this helps :)

loving the new update, the addition of new sounds is amazing, I would love to see more burp/stomach sounds introduced in future updates as the game grows to keep up the variety, Nora is perfect at them. I have some feedback below:
1. passive mode doesnt spawn anything for me this update, it is just a blank ocean with nothing to do
2. With the new struggling mechanic I would love to see a minigame for breaking out, maybe those new heartfish can serve as a "currency" to get a struggle attempt, when you are swallowed you have to click to fill a bar before a second stomach bar depletes, if you do, the shark lets out a massive burp and you escape, consuming a heartfish. Each subsequent attempt should get harder of course to avoid infinite lives
3. I would love to see more things to eat in this game, especially as the mermaid grows, I have a few ideas: birds that fly above the water that you need to jump out to grab, scuba divers that can stun you if they are facing you, swimmers at the top of the water that can distract the shark but give lots of points, boats that you can bang from underneath and knock the people into the water. As you get bigger there can be dolphin girls/squid girls or something along those lines. It would be nice to see more human/seaanimal hybrids like the shark girl but Im not sure how feasible this would be if you aren't still working with AdjectiveNounCombo, they could even just be recolored versions of the player mermaid and at different sizes
Small Suggestions:
Add sliders to turn up/down music and sound effects
After the Shark digests the player, the screen can change into the inside of her stomach where you can still hear the stomach gurgles and her muffled burping, would make losing a chance to have some more fun ;)
love these ideas, might put in the struggle escape and the game over thing. I might put in the volume adjuster as well. Other than that I only plan on putting in 2 more power ups, minor cosmetics, and a level mode then I'll be done for this game :)
318258 is my phone score, I have a few requests, more shark types, maybe a manta power up that lets her flap for speed or glide, some sort of sea bird or boat she could eat, and.. something to do before you reach 1200, that shark cuts alot of runs early and keeps you in the introduction area for alot of runs so either edit the 1000- 1200 shark or put something to do before I found myself multitasking the CPU and phone version waiting for a good run past that shark. Really want to see different prey and possibly different mermaid types, if there was like a gulper or a mega mouth type that allowed you to swallow sharks bigger than you incase your behind on the first growth curve. Or if there was a manta power up that let you eat them from above ..
The next power up has a bit of a speed up and is swallow related, also I am adjusting the game balance for the next patch so that the difficulty is a bit more fluid. I did say I wouldn't be balancing anymore but it's a necessity until I'm done :)

When you start fresh, all that is available is Cruise and the mermaid screen. No silhouettes show until you gain progress towards them
If it's any consolation, it's much easier to get goldfish in the new version after increasing your multiplier from doing shark hunt levels

There is currently a bug which prevents you from swallowing the shark sometimes. I will get to it when I can :)

And the shark is able to eat the mermaid from behind now, if the shark is at least 3/4 the size of the mermaid. Next update it will be 4/5
when will I see the other mermaid skin in the goldfish room, rn I just see the original one at the surface at the top right
Be patient. Keep feeding her and let her digest. And feed her again a bit later. I got her in less than a day.
Of course, you have to unlock her first. You have to get 10 000 points on cruise mode before she appears.
Im having the same issue, how do you feed her?
Clicking her should spawn fish for her to eat if you have any gold fish!
Just got home and got to try the 2 new updates, fucking amazing work m8, the game is close to perfect now :)
I'm even more excited to work on it, looking forward to making the stage mode :)

Does Heart fish increase your size limit if you fry it?
nope, the cooked fish remove all affects of the fish it was. Retains the food you get and the score
having some plans for an an action RPG, but very early in the plans. Will probably return to more fetish stuff in the future as well

loving the new update, the addition of new sounds is amazing, I would love to see more burp/stomach sounds introduced in future updates as the game grows to keep up the variety, Nora is perfect at them. I have some feedback below:
1. passive mode doesnt spawn anything for me this update, it is just a blank ocean with nothing to do
2. With the new struggling mechanic I would love to see a minigame for breaking out, maybe those new heartfish can serve as a "currency" to get a struggle attempt, when you are swallowed you have to click to fill a bar before a second stomach bar depletes, if you do, the shark lets out a massive burp and you escape, consuming a heartfish. Each subsequent attempt should get harder of course to avoid infinite lives
3. I would love to see more things to eat in this game, especially as the mermaid grows, I have a few ideas: birds that fly above the water that you need to jump out to grab, scuba divers that can stun you if they are facing you, swimmers at the top of the water that can distract the shark but give lots of points, boats that you can bang from underneath and knock the people into the water. As you get bigger there can be dolphin girls/squid girls or something along those lines. It would be nice to see more human/seaanimal hybrids like the shark girl but Im not sure how feasible this would be if you aren't still working with AdjectiveNounCombo, they could even just be recolored versions of the player mermaid and at different sizes
Small Suggestions:
Add sliders to turn up/down music and sound effects
After the Shark digests the player, the screen can change into the inside of her stomach where you can still hear the stomach gurgles and her muffled burping, would make losing a chance to have some more fun ;)
love these ideas, might put in the struggle escape and the game over thing. I might put in the volume adjuster as well. Other than that I only plan on putting in 2 more power ups, minor cosmetics, and a level mode then I'll be done for this game :)
Also I'll fix passive mode, sorry about that!
No worries, this game is too special to worry about a temporary bump in the road :)
I waited days for this update it was worth it
318258 is my phone score, I have a few requests, more shark types, maybe a manta power up that lets her flap for speed or glide, some sort of sea bird or boat she could eat, and.. something to do before you reach 1200, that shark cuts alot of runs early and keeps you in the introduction area for alot of runs so either edit the 1000- 1200 shark or put something to do before I found myself multitasking the CPU and phone version waiting for a good run past that shark. Really want to see different prey and possibly different mermaid types, if there was like a gulper or a mega mouth type that allowed you to swallow sharks bigger than you incase your behind on the first growth curve. Or if there was a manta power up that let you eat them from above ..
The next power up has a bit of a speed up and is swallow related, also I am adjusting the game balance for the next patch so that the difficulty is a bit more fluid. I did say I wouldn't be balancing anymore but it's a necessity until I'm done :)
